I was born and bred in Worcester and have lived in Worcestershire for most of my life. I was educated at Worcester Royal Grammar School and Exeter University. I have been a professional genealogist since 1994, after taking early retirement from my previous job.
For over ten years I attended a local history course run at the County Record Office by the WEA in conjunction with Birmingham University. During this time I was researching the Poor Law and other aspects of social history in Worcestershire, and was getting to know my way round the Record Office. I also researched my own family in the Gloucester Record Office and these personal researches stood me in good stead when I took up genealogy as a paid occupation. To improve my skills I attended another WEA class on Latin for Local History for two years running.
I am a member of the Friends of the Worcestershire County Record Office, the Worcestershire Historical Society, the Worcestershire Archaeological Society and the Gloucestershire Family History Society. I own a large collection of reference books on Worcestershire. Also,as a keen rambler, I know my way round the county in a practical way!
